On March 14, 2025, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as part of the “Folk and Traditional Culture 2025” program, awarded Krakow Nowa Huta Przyszłości S.A. a grant for the project “Space of history – ethnographic maps of former villages of present-day Krakow”.

The project involves ethnographic research with interpretation and preparation of ethnographic maps of former villages from the area of the present-day Nowa Huta, a district of Krakow. Ethnographic research is one of the elements activating the local community around the open-air museum, part of “Branice” Educational Park. The process of translocation of four buildings to the open-air museum is currently underway, as well as the completion of items that will become elements of the exhibition. The facility will eventually include 11 homesteads, an inn, a church and a modern exhibition and educational building. The “Branice” Educational Park will create a space for the implementation of social initiatives, and local residents will be involved in the creation of the exposition through, among other things, participation in ethnographic field research.

The project “Space of history – ethnographic maps of former villages of today’s Krakow” involves not only KNHP S.A. employees and ethnographers, but also cultural heritages and social activists. The work will identify local heritage on the ground, explore living traditions, restore the memory of relations between villagers and enrich the vision of the open-air museum under construction. The social project “Space of history – ethnographic maps of former villages of present-day Krakow” will be implemented in 2025.

The open-air museum, promoting the rich heritage of Western Krakowiaks, will contribute to the growth of tourism and promotion of local culture, and will have a positive impact on building and strengthening regional identity. The “Branice” Educational Park project is being implemented with funds from Krakow Nowa Huta Przyszłości S.A., which are not sufficient. Efforts to obtain additional sources of funding for this investment are aimed at speeding up the process of creating a Krakow open-air museum.
