Educational Park Branice

Educational Park “Branice” – first open-air museum in Krakow.

The open-air museum of wooden architecture being built in Branice will present the folk culture of the ethnographic group of Western Cracovians. On an area of 3.5 hectares, there will be 10 homesteads, an inn, a church, an educational and exhibition building with office space, as well as a green meadow, an orchard and a parking lot. The open-air museum will make available to visitors wooden architecture objects, mainly from the area of the Krakow Municipality, dating from the beginning of the 19th century to the 1940s.

Kraków Nowa Huta Przyszłości, which is implementing the project, has carried out nearly 70 site inspections in 62 locations in Małopolska, as well as mycological and construction tests for 33 wooden buildings. It has already collected nearly 500 items that will become exhibits. Currently, the Company is carrying out the first translocation to the area of the park. There are plans to successively relocate further facilities. The Educational Park “Branice” is part of the main component of the Recreation and Leisure Centre “Przylasek Rusiecki” implemented as part of the “Kraków – Nowa Huta of the Future” project.

The aim of the investment is to create an area of education and recreation using resources such as:

1. Relocated historic buildings from the areas of former villages near Krakow;
2. Tangible and intangible heritage of the ethnographic group of Western Cracovians;
3. Natural resources, including existing greenery and interesting landform;
4. Attractive spatial solutions, obtained by using the value of the translocated facilities, the educational and exhibition building and the paths between them.

The project, as an educational park, is intended to be a space teeming with life, a destination for trips (including walking and cycling), a place to rest, as well as a response to the desire o explore the authentic, unique and culturally valuable landscape of the countryside near Krakow.
The area covered by the project is located in the eastern part of Krakow, in the Nowa Huta District. In the south, the area is bordered by the following streets: Generała Michała Karaszewicza-Tokarzewskiego Street and Tatarakowa Street.
