On November 9, 2023, the northern subarea of the Economic Activity Zone “Nowa Huta Przyszłości” was officially inaugurated. This marks a new chapter in the revitalization and economic activation of the eastern part of Krakow and the entire region.
Krakow Nowa Huta Przyszłości S.A. has made available to investors another area of the Economic Activity Zone “Nowa Huta Przyszłości.” The “Igołomska-North” subarea of SAG, together with the “Igołomska-South” subarea opened in 2022, forms one of the most investment-friendly places in Małopolska. The Economic Activity Zone “Nowa Huta Przyszłości” is part of the Science and Technology Park “Branice,” created as part of the strategic project of the City of Krakow and the Małopolskie Voivodeship called “Krakow – Nowa Huta Przyszłości.”
The Deputy Mayor for Sustainable Development, Jerzy Muzyk, and the CEO of Krakow Nowa Huta Przyszłości S.A., Artur Paszko, officially opened the Igołomska-North Economic Activity Zone.
“As a local government, we focus on the dynamic development of Krakow. We strive for our city to attract brilliant minds from around the world, consequently bringing in new technologies and vibrant business investments. The Economic Activity Zone ‘Nowa Huta Przyszłości’ is another stage of an initiative that significantly transforms the face of the eastern part of Krakow” said Mayor Jerzy Muzyk during the opening.
No other area in Krakow requires such urgent action and holds such great potential for revolutionary changes as Nowa Huta. The engagement of local communities, landowners, entrepreneurs, investors, steelworks owners, higher education institutions, and government institutions allows for the dynamic development of the “Krakow – Nowa Huta Przyszłości” project. Through this initiative, we can inject a developmental impulse into the demanding neighborhood, as evidenced by the effects observed today in the Economic Activity Zone. The implementation of the “Krakow – Nowa Huta Przyszłości” project will transform the entire Nowa Huta and significantly contribute to the development of Krakow” emphasized Artur Paszko.
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) will be able to locate investments on over 20 hectares and several plots within both EAZ subareas. Convenient infrastructure for modern business, including roads, bike paths, pedestrian pathways, Wi-Fi relaxation zones, and parking with electric vehicle charging stations, has been prepared in both subareas. EAZ is a greenfield area developed on a degraded post-industrial site, without existing buildings, equipped with complete infrastructure necessary for investment realization. The area is fully serviced, with water and sewage installations, rainwater systems, electrical installations, and technological channels for telecommunications networks. Comfortable usage is ensured by a reconstructed high-voltage power network and energy-efficient lighting.
Investment areas are made available to entrepreneurs in the form of:
– Lease,
– Lease with the option to purchase,
– Purchase,
– Purchase with payment installment plans.
In the immediate vicinity are post-industrial areas associated with the T. Sendzimir Steelworks, currently owned by ArcelorMittal Poland S.A. The EAZ area is covered by local spatial development plans that provide clear guidelines for its use.
The “Igołomska-North” subarea (17.4 hectares) is located 5 km from the eastern ring road of Krakow and 11 km from the entrance to the A4 motorway. In 2024, it will gain fast connections to the S7 route to Warsaw and eventually to Podhale. The area has highway connections to the International John Paul II “Kraków Airport,” located 30 km away, and a limited certification airport in Pobiednik Wielki, 5 km away, which, after planned reconstruction, will be able to serve business traffic on a larger scale. The highway drive to Katowice takes an hour, and to Rzeszów, 1.5 hours. There is also an active railway line nearby. The carefully chosen location allows, on the one hand, the revitalization of post-industrial areas and, on the other hand, utilizes the communication advantages and the proximity of the tourist, cultural, and scientific wealth of Krakow.
The area has been designed and prepared for entrepreneurship incubators, technological centers, and facilities for high-tech industries and craftsmanship. Its preparation aims at the development of investments in the field of the Smart Specialization of the Małopolskie Voivodeship, such as natural sciences, sustainable energy, information and communication technologies, chemistry, metal production, electrical engineering, and machinery industry.
Krakow Nowa Huta Przyszłości S.A. is the owner of EAZ, which is involved in promoting Krakow, especially the Nowa Huta district, and extends its activities to the Krakow Functional Area. It carries out tasks within the framework of the strategic project “Krakow – Nowa Huta Przyszłości,” which creates conditions for economic activation in the eastern part of Krakow at the infrastructural, functional, and social levels, revitalizing the job market and combating unemployment. This enhances the city’s attractiveness for investors, communities, tourists, and develops the entire region.
The first of the two released EAZ subareas – “Igołomska-South” – is already attracting significant interest among investors. The investment area will soon become a local business development center, addressing the needs of residents and modern industry. The Krakow municipality prioritizes continuous development and aims to maintain a balance between the needs of different groups.
