The “Przylasek Rusiecki” Recreation and Leisure Center project, implemented by KNHP S.A., has been qualified for the PLGBC GreenUp campaign – mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

Repeatedly recognized for design and implementation, the Recreation and Leisure Center “Przylasek Rusiecki” has received, among other things, the certificate “A Place Friendly to Families with Children” and has been pointed out as a model of good practice in the area of integration and support for Krakow families. Currently, the Recreation and Leisure Center “Przylasek Rusiecki” has qualified for the PLGBC GreenUp campaign. The Polish Green Building Council is a non-profit, non-governmental organization promoting sustainable construction. PLGBC is part of a global community of nearly 80 organizations centered around the World Green Building Council. The Recreation and Leisure Center “Przylasek Rusiecki” has been identified by PLGBC as a good example of sustainable development and was one of the featured projects in PLGBC’s GreenUp campaign – Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change. Mitigation focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions through building retrofits, optimizing energy and resource use, and sustainable design. Adaptation, on the other hand, involves preparing infrastructure and communities for the effects of climate change, minimizing their negative impact on the environment and quality of life.

Climate change has affected the design of entire cities. The key to a secure future remains a balance between profit generation, value creation and meeting sustainability goals. Modern buildings combat climate change by reducing emissions, while recreational spaces improve quality of life. The hugely popular Recreation and Leisure Center is one of Krakow’s five official bathing areas. This year’s list includes Bagry Beach, Bagry Beach East, Zakrzówek, Przylasek Rusiecki and Brzegi Marina, although the latter location, due to ongoing modernization, will not yet be open to visitors this season. The project in Przylasek Rusiecki was carried out by Kraków Nowa Huta Przyszłości S.A. on a post-industrial site next to 14 water reservoirs. The buildings, piers, ramps, paths, parking spaces, sanitary facilities were designed to be friendly to parents with strollers and children and people with disabilities. The project was implemented with respect for nature. Vegetation has room to grow freely, and the surface of the paths, made of aggregate, allows rainwater infiltration. The “Przylasek Rusiecki” Recreation and Leisure Center features charging stations for electric cars and benches with USB ports, as well as energy-saving technologies for obtaining and using energy that reduce the cost of the facility and promote environmental protection.

The “Przylasek Rusiecki” Recreation and Leisure Center accurately fits into the framework of mitigation and adaptation to climate change and the popular trend of tourism in one’s own city, which promotes a healthy lifestyle and provides an alternative to the virtual world.
