How is Nowa Huta changing? A new mural will tell you about it!
Picture of changes in Nowa Huta
A new mural will be created in the Willowe estate, in Nowa Huta district in Krakow in the coming days, which will change a neglected fragment of this part of the city. The work will symbolically tell about the history of the district, from its creation to the present. We will also try to look into the future.
The organiser of the venture is Krakow Nowa Huta of the Future SA., whose headquarters is located at the Willowe estate. We want to not only create a new space for investment and recreation, but also to take care of existing places. The action is also part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Nowa Huta, acting in a way their aftermath. The mural will appear on the garages and transformer station building. Until now, these objects were only “decorated” by vandals.
Past – present – future of Nowa Huta
A mural designed by Dariusz Milczarek titled “Past – present – the future of Nowa Huta” will consist three parts that will symbolically show the changes that are taking place in this part of Krakow.
The first fragment will depict this place as a city-machine. As the author declares: “Thanks to the use of colours dominated by greens, blues and violet it will be a space with a friendly and ecological aura”. This fragment of the mural will also refer formally and colour to the composition that Dariusz Milczarek created at the Złota Jesień estate in 2017.
The next element of the mural will be a conventional scene depicting the fall of the Lenin monument. This symbol will also be a transition towards the present-day Nowa Huta, which is less and less associated with grey infrastructure only. The second part of the work will show the city’s district subject to constant revitalization, more and more green and modern, and willingly visited by tourists and friendly to residents.
The last, third part of the mural is an optimistic look of a small child into the future. The boy takes off what was and is like a veil, revealing a fragment of what is in front of him.
Now a mural, soon a neighbourhood picnic
The mural preparation project also envisaged the organization of a neighbourhood meeting for the residents of the Willowe estate. We wanted to celebrate 70 years of Nowa Huta with them. Unfortunately, the current epidemic has forced us to change our plans. The scheduled picnic will take place, but at a later date. At the same time, we urge all residents of the Willowe housing estate not to gather in its vicinity when creating the mural.
This is just the beginning of changes at Nowa Huta!
The mural is also an announcement of further changes in Nowa Huta. Let us remind you that in the coming weeks – as part of the “Krakow – Nowa Huta of the Future” project – the reconstruction of the surroundings of the largest water reservoir in Przylasek Rusiecki will start, where ultimately there will be a large recreation zone, including the beach, piers, walking paths and new greenery. The area will also be tidied up. The value of this project is almost PLN 20 million, of which over PLN 5 million is co-financing from the Regional Operational Program of the Malopolska for 2014-2020. This year, we also plan to start investment in the “Branice” Science and Technology Park. An Economic Activity Zone will start to appear near Igołomska street. It is an investment worth over 85 million PLN, of which almost 59 million is co-financing from European Funds.
